  Enamelling

  Kiln fire glass crushed to a powder to
  produce beautiful opaque and
  translucentcolours on metal.
  Experiment with the techniques of dry sifting
  and wet packing amongst others

  Cold Connections

 

  Learn how to connect metals and other
  materials together without soldering:
  hinges, rivets, tabs etc

  Fold forming

  Invented in the 1980s by English-born
  goldsmith Charles Lewton-Brain, fold forming
  is a technique of folding metal,
  repeatedly annealing and forging then
  unfolding to reveal a dramatic new

 Soldering masterclass

  Troubleshoot the technique of soldering,
  and perfect the finishing processes of filing,
  emery papering, polishing and applying
  brushed finishes to hollow and solid forms.

Set along the Grand Union Canal, Great Western Studios houses many artists and designer-makers. The teaching sessions in Melissa's studio run from 10.30am to 4.30pm with a break for lunch. Basic materials and consumables are included as students learn about specific techniques and then they have an opportunity to work on their own pieces. Samples, books, handouts plus tea and coffee are provided. Sessions are a day in length unless otherwise specified and offered seven days a week.
